Who is Bevalix?

Based in France, our client Bevalix, wanted to implement a safety-focused fitness tracking app to prioritize user safety through advanced technology and community integration. Bevalix proposed to integrate the phone’s fall detection algorithm with a nearby community of first responders, significantly reducing the time between injury and emergency response. The app would utilize AI to automatically detect discomfort during sports activities, identifying potential health risks early and ensuring timely intervention. Additionally, the app’s goal was also to serve as a community education platform with the purpose to increase the number of community first responders.

The problem

With the growing popularity of solo outdoor activities like running, cycling and hiking, the chances of encountering unexpected emergencies have increased significantly. People who participate in these solo sports face greater risk if they fall ill, injure themselves, or find themselves in an unsafe environment. Approximately 250,000 people worldwide experience fatal incidents during sports activities each year, including sudden cardiac arrest.

In France, the average response time for emergency medical services (EMS) is approximately 15 minutes, which can be dangerously long in critical situations, such as a sudden cardiac arrest. Quick recognition and response to these emergencies are crucial, as every second can be the difference between life and death.

Bevalix’s Inspirational Vision

Bevalix’s vision extends far beyond conventional fitness apps; they aspire to be a lifeline for athletes. To create a safer world for outdoor enthusiasts and athletes, Bevalix wants to revolutionize what it means to stay safe while staying active. They aim to establish a platform that mobilizes community support instantly during emergencies, ensuring essential help is always at hand and setting a new standard for safety in outdoor fitness.

To achieve this vision, Bevalix aims to:

  • Design a smart app equipped with an advanced fall detection system that functions seamlessly on both Android and iOS platforms.
  • Develop comprehensive e-learning content and hands-on training for emergency management.
  • Implement real-time alerts to swiftly mobilize community responders during crises.
Crafting the Solution: Transforming Vision into Reality

Agilno collaborated with Bevalix to bring their groundbreaking idea to life. This partnership showcased Agilno’s expertise in crafting a product strategy and design that were both inventive and effective.

Agilno’s designers and engineers worked closely with product stakeholders to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Bevalix application’s goals. By focusing on key user needs, Agilno developed a solution tailored to the unique challenges of athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.

In the following sections, we’ll uncover the key steps we took to bring this vision to life.

Define Bevalix’s Goals and Objectives

The primary challenges for Bevalix included:

Emergency Response Time: During emergencies, wait time of 15 minutes or more can worsen the situation and increase the risk of complications and further injury.

Knowledge Deficit: Many athletes and outdoor enthusiasts lack the necessary skills to manage emergencies, such as injuries or dehydration. Additionally, bystanders often lack basic first aid knowledge.

Community Support Mobilization: Mobilizing first responders in real-time poses challenges. Despite their presence, there is no effective mechanism to activate them promptly. Immediate mobilization of community support is crucial, but the lack of infrastructure and coordination mechanisms makes it difficult to ensure timely assistance during emergencies.

We worked with the Bevalix team to understand these challenges and craft both short-term and long-term goals, objectives and key results for their product.

Perform thorough Competitive Analysis

Agilno conducted extensive market research and competitor analysis to understand industry trends, athlete and community responder preferences, and potential challenges that could impact the project. Insights from market research helped in refining the project’s focus and differentiation strategies.

Key findings highlighted gaps in current offerings, revealing opportunities for innovation. Additionally, there is a strong demand for solutions that effectively address user needs in various scenarios.

User Personas

Agilno created detailed user personas for athletes and community responders, allowing for a tailored design that meets specific user needs effectively.

To develop these personas, Agilno conducted user interviews and focus groups with individuals involved in activities like running, hiking, and cycling. Through these interactions, valuable insights were gained into their challenges and key priorities, especially regarding safety.

These insights significantly shaped the app’s design. Thus, the personas allowed for a focus on real-life user needs. Consequently, the app was ensured to be reliable and easy to use, even in high-pressure situations. Every design decision was informed by these insights, ensuring the experience centered around users and their unique demands.

Journey Mappings

Agilno developed journey maps to visualize the user experience. These maps ensured a seamless and efficient app design that balanced aesthetics with functionality.

By creating detailed journey maps, Agilno gained insights into how users would interact with the app at each stage. This process identified key moments where users required specific features or support. Each step was carefully planned to maintain a smooth flow, ensuring straightforward navigation and minimizing potential frustrations.

This approach resulted in a user experience that was functional and tailored to the specific needs of athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, allowing them to effectively use the app during their activities.

User-Centric App Design

Agilno focused on creating an app interface that is intuitive and easy to navigate, especially during high-stress situations. This design ensures that users can quickly access essential features when needed.

At every stage of the design process, one key question guided Agilno: “Can someone under stress, with adrenaline rushing, use this easily?” The goal was to eliminate unnecessary complexity, allowing users to take immediate action when it mattered most. Each element of the interface was crafted to be simple and accessible, enabling users to rely on the app without hesitation.

By concentrating on what truly matters, Agilno created a solution that athletes and outdoor enthusiasts can trust—whether tracking performance or responding quickly in emergencies.
